Product Description Powerful. When is the last time someone used that word to describe you? It doesn't make sense that Almighty God would have children characterized by fear and insecurity. He put His Spirit in us so we could be known for our power (Acts 1:8; 2 Tim. 1:7). Sadly, most believers and churches are known for talent or intellect rather than supernatural power. What's worse is that we're okay with it. Could it be that we've forgotten the One who distinguishes us from every religion and cult in the world? Through solid scriptural support and compelling narrative, breakthrough author Francis Chan returns us to the Holy Spirit as the Bible describes Him. He reminds us that we were not created and saved merely to survive our time on earth. Chan contends that we've ignored the Spirit and are reaping the disastrous results. It's time for the beloved church of Jesus Christ to reverse the trend of neglect. Let's pursue the Spirit-filled life of effectiveness.

impacted my life , taught me so many things, i am grateful July 22, 2010 hey hey hey awesome, this book is inspiring. at times hard to read. but that is only when you are resisting its truth. it is back a lot by the bible and has real life examples as well. Chan writes very well and wraps it all up nicely at the end. you will feel accomplished when you finsh this book and that you learned quite a bit as long as you are open to it. there is one chapter of many many many that chan states some captivating lines. in one chapter in particular he challenged you to read the gospel like a 12 year old, like you have never seen it before.....OVERALL...i dont read EVER.. and i READ THIS BOOK IN 2 WEEKS........ peace out.... GREAT BOOK,,,,, youll only know if you buy it and see for yourselves..if you are open, i belive God can truly speak to you through this book
Improve your relationship with God July 21, 2010 R. Wegner This book increased my understanding of the Holy Spirit and was well worth the read. The author does a wonderful job communicating his message to the reader. I recommend this book to anyone who desires a closer walk with God.
Great! July 21, 2010 Stick A really well done book that really just zaps you, letting you wake up and re-discover the wonders of God for yourself!
Disappointing July 13, 2010 Brandon Halvorsen (Traverse City, MI, US) I looked forward to this book hoping for a balanced and "meaty" look at the Holy Spirit but sadly it was disappointed. Mr. Chan spent a great deal of time on discussing the need for pure motives when it comes to flowing in the gifts of the Spirit, which is good but then said practically nothing about the gifts themselves or the importance of them. Healing, prophecy, tongues, miracles were almost absent from the book. He had a few rebukes towards Charismatics about emotionalism which is typical of people who lean towards Cessationalism, as if getting emotional when the Spirit moves among His people is a bad thing.
I walked away not learning anything new about the Holy Spirit nor felt any closer to Him in anyway. He also discussed the fruit of the Spirit as if we could produce it ourselves through our own efforts and commitment. And he promoted social justice as if that was a gift of the Spirit or a result of having Him in our lives. As Christians we are called to feed the hungry and look after the poor but that is a different topic.
I'd recommend the late Dr. John White's "When the Spirit Comes With Power" instead or anything by Jack Deere. When the Spirit Comes with Power
Gratitude July 1, 2010 Corporate & family manager 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Mr. Chan has done it again in this book -- he helps God to become visible with Scriptural references that aren't laden with complex theology. He explains the purpose and power of the Holly Spirit as a person, who is to be respected equally with the Father and Son, not ignored as "It." He writes insightfully -- and is dead on with me -- about why many of us don't pray to the Holy Spirit, e.g., maybe we've prayed before, weren't answered, and would rather not pray than be let down, etc. And then, he teaches us how to pray anew on what God actually does promise and is certain to deliver (I'm gonna keep the list at my office)! Thinking I knew the Scriptures well, it was refreshing to see how I've missed the mark on my prayer life. It's reinvigorated me already and I want each of my kids to read it. Thank you, Mr. Chan, for helping me be more in awe of God through your work.
