Amazon.com The Ultimate Gift is a tale of one man's tumultuous journey toward personal growth and fulfillment. Surrounded in life, and death, by avaricious family members fueled by a sense of entitlement, billionaire Red Stevens (James Garner) wants to bequeath at least one member of his extended family "the ultimate gift": something he perceives as immensely more valuable than material wealth. Red's arrogant grandson Jason (Drew Fuller) holds a deep-seated hatred for his newly-deceased grandfather, so he's surprised to learn from his grandfather's friend and lawyer Mr. Hamilton (Bill Cobbs) and assistant Miss Hastings (Lee Meriwether) that he's been mentioned in his late grandfather's will. Far from a straightforward gift of cash, land, or stock, Red's bequest comes in the form of a series of mysterious recorded instructions, the first of which requires Jason to hop on a plane for Texas the very next morning without a hint of the trip's purpose or the nature of the gift that awaits him. Dropped into a life of hard physical labor on a ranch in the middle of nowhere, Jason's bad-tempered fury eventually turns to resignation and he finds himself engaged in, and even taking pride in, the first real manual labor he's ever done in his life. Unbeknownst to him, his journey toward claiming the ultimate gift has only just begun. When he returns from Texas, Jason finds his home cleared out, his car confiscated, and instructions to produce one true friend. While Jason is reduced to sleeping in the park, a young child name Emily (Abigail Breslin) and her mother Alexia (Ali Hillis) make his acquaintance and lead him to re-examine his personal prejudices and perceptions of what's truly important in life. Jason's journey of self-discovery continues throughout a series of other trying experiences and, in the end, Grandpa Red's "ultimate gift" of life lessons profoundly and permanently improves the quality of Jason's life. What's more, Jason's new perspective of his place in society has a very positive affect on the larger community. This very powerful film is funny, heartbreaking, and intensely thought-provoking. --Tami Horiuchi Stills from The Ultimate Gift (click for larger image)

WORST MOVIE OF ALL TIME: BAD ACTING CRAP WRITING July 24, 2010 C. Scanlon (among us humans) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
worst movie of all time ever made
LOUSY acting
they even manage to destroy James Garner
LOUSIESt writing ever
totally unbelievable
a string of episodes you could drive a herd of cattle through
so many holes
such UNBELIEVABLE motivaitons
so untrue to human nature
absolutely the worst movie of all time
are we so brain dead from spending our lives watching movie and tv that we do not know anymore what true life is all about and true human nature and we buy absolute fantasy crap like this?
come on people
go to a cancer ward and see what kids there are really like
as I have
talk with kids under chemotherapy as this little girl is alleged to be.
don't talk like this.
check out the racism
a large BLACK woman is fluffing up her pillow, and makes a reference about her going to God.
which means the what should we call it, the nondenominational interfaith just sitting room.
which is usually hidden away in an unused hallway on the first floor.
there is not a pediatric oncology wing in the USA which would let a child indergoing intensive chemotherapy, indicated by the baldness, wander off to the sitting room.
I have spend days and nights in them.
Send kids to the toy room on wing, not way off alone to the stting room.
Let alone out to the park to share a sandwich with derelict mom, who pays no bills, an is unconcerned about her stolen pocketbook all together, yet is a pretty snappy dresser.
There is no truth whatsever in this film. It is a lie, and the father of lies, particular for our immigration policy.
go to Ecuador and visit the farthest mountains
This movie has the most grotesque racial stereotypes since Amos met Andy (two white guys with black shoe polish on their white faces)
Every vicious Latin American racist stereotype is on full display here, and a visit to a local library does not counter balance it, as we get into gender stereotypes as well.
I have met and worked with people from Ecuador, the most kind and cultured and clean people, with a rich cultural heritage ready to share, at great self-sacrifice
not like these sweaty grunting creeps here pictured
this is what they show our kids??!!
worst stereotypes since the execrable The Magnificent Seven (Special Edition)
And come on out to my place and put up a long string of fence poles with no prior experience except smoking costly cigarettes . . .
take a stolen purse from a fellow homeless person and go through it
are there no cops around?
ask your mom for money and hear her say
well gee sorry I was told not to give you any
go to a dinner party and oh it is all too horrible na absolutely unbelievable to recount here
this movie is at every minute entirely unebelievable and cannot hang its unbelievable incidents together at all
worst movie ever
how is millions of dollars spent on making this crap?
do people really really buy into it?
hey folks
turn off the tv
get outside
meet real people
get a life
this movie is not
this cannot even excuse itself as magic realism
magical realism reveals to us the deeper realities
this is pur and shallow fantasy form beginning to end
might as well watch baywatch
Worst Movie Ever MAde
the only thing this movie inspires is nothing
get a life already and get outside and help people
learn what it really is to be human now.
turn off this crap
